Gurt Wings is a multi-award-winning street food business based in Bristol, celebrated for its high-quality fried chicken and unique, small-batch sauces. Founded in 2017 by James Mitchell (famously known as “Gurty”), the brand evolved from a garage-based hobby into a major player in the UK’s wing scene.
The Food
Their menu centers on a “low and slow” approach, where free-range chicken is soaked in buttermilk and spices for 24 hours before being coated in a secret recipe flour and fried until crispy. Signature items include:
- Chicken Wings & Strips: Available in various styles, including their famous Buffalo and “Lost in Translation” Korean-inspired flavors.
- Tater Tots: Often seasoned with “Chicken Salt,” a fan-favorite side.
- Halloumi Stix: A popular vegetarian option served with their signature dips.
- Gurt Sauces: They produce their own line of sauces (like Beefy as Fck Buffalo*) which are bottled and sold online.
Awards and Reputation
Gurt Wings is a heavyweight at Wing Fest, the UK’s biggest chicken wing festival. They have consistently taken home top prizes, including 1st Place Judges’ Choice for Best Buffalo Wing at London Wing Fest (2023) and multiple “People’s Choice” awards in Bristol.
