Produced from 1998 to 2002, the Maserati 3200 GT is celebrated at the car that rescued Maserati from the troubled “Bi Turbo” era that preceded it. Styled by Giugiaro and powered by the last truly Maserati developed and manufactured engine. This twin turbo V8 produces a conservative 370 BHP although it is well known that this was scaled back in brochures to avoid to be seen competing with Maranello’s flagship “360 Modena”. The version you see today is the 6 speed manual which has a 0-60 of 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 174mph.
The Maserati 3200 GT was the first production car to feature LED “Boomerang” tail lights. Unfortunately these LED lights did not pass strict US regulations and consequently the 3200GT was never sold in the States. The subsequent naturally aspirated ( non Turbo 4200 Coupe reverted to more traditional light clusters – some say borrowed from a Honda Prelude! Other unique features of the 3200 are the bonnet vents and the trademark elongated oval clock.
I acquired the car in 2010 with 54,000 miles on ebay auction and have increased the mileage to 106,000. I have driven it across Europe on a number of Maserati events including the Centenary Celebrations in Modena, Italy,(back to the factory it was created), the 20th anniversary of the 3200GT in the Black Forest Germany and also down to southern Spain.
The are currently only 88 cars currently licensed in the UK from the original 870 imported and 4,800 units built in total
The car regularly participates in Bath Motor Cub’s “Aqua Sulis” Classic tour
